Pygmy Corydoras (Corydoras pygmaeus)
Description
Pygmy Corydoras are tiny and active catfish known for their schooling behaviour and peaceful nature. Unlike most Corydoras species, they often swim in the mid-water as well as along the substrate, making them very lively additions to nano and planted aquariums.
Native Location
Native to slow-moving tributaries and flooded forest areas in the Amazon basin of South America, particularly in Brazil.
Size
Grows up to about 2.5–3 cm (around 1 inch) in length.
Care Requirements
Pygmy Corydoras prefer well-planted aquariums with soft substrate and gentle water flow. Ideal water temperature is 22–26°C. They should be kept in groups of at least 6–8 fish and will accept small sinking pellets, micro foods, and live or frozen foods.
Temperament
Very peaceful and social. Best kept in schools and suitable for nano community aquariums with other small, non-aggressive fish.
