Description
The Purple Chela is a slender and active schooling fish known for its subtle purple sheen along the body and its graceful swimming behaviour. Its reflective scales and constant movement make it an attractive addition to planted and community aquariums.
Native Location
Native to rivers, streams, and freshwater bodies in India and Sri Lanka.
Size
Adult fish typically grow up to 5–6 cm (around 2–2.5 inches) in length.
Care Requirements
Purple Chela prefer aquariums with open swimming space and gentle water flow. Ideal water temperature ranges between 22–26°C. They should be kept in groups of at least 6–8 fish and will accept flakes, micro pellets, and small live or frozen foods.
Temperament
Peaceful and active schooling fish. Best suited for community aquariums with other small, non-aggressive species.
