Description
The Orange Flash Apistogramma cacatuoides is a vibrant dwarf cichlid known for its striking orange fins and bold body coloration. Males display elongated dorsal and tail fins with bright orange highlights, giving them a dramatic and eye-catching appearance in planted aquariums.
Native Location
The species Apistogramma cacatuoides originates from slow-moving tributaries and forest streams in the Amazon basin of South America, particularly in Peru and Brazil. The Orange Flash is a selectively bred aquarium strain.
Size
Adult males typically grow up to 7–8 cm (around 3 inches), while females are smaller at about 4–5 cm (around 2 inches).
Care Requirements
Orange Flash Apistogramma prefer well-planted aquariums with driftwood, caves, and hiding spots. Ideal water temperature ranges between 24–28°C, with slightly soft to neutral water. They thrive on a varied diet including pellets, flakes, and live or frozen foods.
Temperament
Generally peaceful but territorial during breeding. Best kept as a pair or in a carefully planned community aquarium with small, calm tank mates.
